Pinehurst
Some addresses, such as Beverly Hills and Park Avenue, rise above all others and proclaim to the world that you’ve made it. Such is the case with Moore County’s Village of Pinehurst.
To most, Pinehurst is synonymous with golf, primarily because of Pinehurst Resort, with three of its nine courses designed by Donald Ross, including the famous Pinehurst No. 2, host to many U.S. Open Championships. However, this crown jewel of Moore County real estate offers so much more.
The central village, a National Historic Landmark District, retains the unrivaled charm imbued by legendary landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed New York City’s Central Park and the Biltmore Estate in Asheboro.
Families need look no further than Pinehurst to find a safe place to live. The efforts of the village’s government, law enforcement and emergency services personnel have resulted in it being named Safest City in North Carolina for 2016 and 2017 by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
The community’s healthcare facilities are unsurpassed. FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, named one of the country’s 100 top hospitals in 2016 and 2017, and Reid Heart Center are part of a network of facilities administered by FirstHealth of the Carolinas. These health centers, along with Pinehurst Medical and Pinehurst Surgical centers, provide most of the area’s jobs.
As the largest municipality in Moore County, there’s always something to do in the Village of Pinehurst. Oktoberfest is a popular annual event as are the four Live After Five concerts performed throughout the year. In addition, parades are held on the Fourth of July and St. Patrick’s Day. The Carolina Philharmonic also calls Pinehurst its home.
Nature lovers also have a gem in the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens, which features 12 gardens maintained by students in the horticultural program at the adjacent Sandhills Community College (SCC).
The beautiful, growing campus of SCC offers associates degrees, diplomas, and certificates in a wide array of academic and trade disciplines. The college also offers continuing education classes for life-long learners.
