Carthage

   As the county seat, Carthage is the hub for Moore County governmental and legal activities. In fact, local community events often revolve around the historic courthouse in the center of town. One of the biggest annual events is the Carthage Buggy Festival held in May. The event pays homage to the Tyson and Jones Buggy Factory that built horse-drawn carriages from the middle of the 1800s through the 1920s.

   A mural in the company’s honor was unveiled in 2014. It was the first of 20 murals of the Carthage Mural Project, which hopes the public artworks will become a draw for tourists.

   With two new developments, Cabin Branch and Forest Ridge, the area around the Town of Carthage is poised for fast growth.
